Name Change.

I've been trying to think of a new blog name for a while now. I really wanted to get away from "The Jago's" just because of the career field Ethan is getting into next year. It's not like we're not allowed to post our name or anything...I would just prefer it to not be so searchable considering the fact that there aren't many Jago's out there.

I also wanted a name that would have a deeper meaning.

So why SparrowNest? I've been seeing a lot of sparrow stuff lately...it seems to be the trend and I'm loving it! But what brought it to my attention was the old hymn, "His Eye is on the Sparrow." It was written by Sylvia D. Martin who was inspired by a woman whose husband was bed-ridden for over twenty years. Mrs. Martin's husband commented to the couple how inspiring it was that they were so happy despite the circustances. The woman's response was, "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me." (source here) This got me researching all about sparrows and the Bible. I wanted to know if sparrows were even mentioned in the Bible and what importance they held. I recalled the famliar verse in Matthew 6:26 >>

Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are?

And then there is Matthew 10:29-31
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

I found this website about birds of the Bible. Come to find out, the Psalms mention sparrows quite often. Sparrows are lonely birds. This immediately attracted me because of our constant moving with the military which can get lonely at times, but more so being a Christian. We are not of this world and when it comes down to it, men will fail, leaving it just us and God.

What sealed the deal was when I stumbled upon Psalm 84:3 >>

Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young--a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.

The sparrow is considered wise for building it's nest at the very altar of God. She could've chosen any other place to build her nest for her family, but she chose to build it at the Lord's altar. Figuratively speaking, this is where we should build our nest. There are definitely many dimensions to the name but it's fits me and my family. Hopefully this will be the last major blog change for a while!
